My 2018 in retrospect

As the last few moments of 2018 are ticking away, I’d like to recap the most memorable moments of this year together with you:

Our wedding

No doubt, our wedding is the biggest thing that happened to me in 2018. I say ‘happened to me’ as it all came so incredibly fast: we got engaged in December 2017 and got married April 23rd 2018. There definitely were some stressful moments during the planning, but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Full elope-style with just the two of us, our Las Vegas chapel wedding was just magical! And I’m very grateful I may call this wonderfull man my husband.

In the spirit of this special occasion, I enjoyed creating  a little wedding series for the blog, taking you all on the hunt for bridal dresses and accessories. The overview of our big day still has to be added. A link to the full Wedding Series can be found here.

Viva Las Vegas & USA honeymoon

Part of the reason why we were engaged for such a short time, was to get married in Las Vegas, while attending the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend. As a result, half of our USA trip was now honeymoon.

We enjoyed the festival and had fun dressing up and meeting lots of people – Instagram icons like Miss Rockabilly Ruby and Miss Victory Violet, as well as all those other beautiful pinup girls and dapper chaps.

While in Vegas, we strolled along the strip and it’s marvelous scenery, did some exquisite vintage shopping at the Antique Mall – I bought my first true vintage lucite purse!!! –, got married in a wedding chapel and, of course, put our luck to the test at the casino.

We visited the world’s largest thermometer in Baker, the famous Peggy Sue 50’s diner in Yermo, the historic Route 66, Disneyland in Anaheim and the cozy setting of Old Towne Orange. We stopped in Lomita to shop my favorite shoe brand at the B.A.I.T. Footwear Boutique.

Major shopping happened in Burbank, home to the Vixen store by Micheline Pitt and What Katie Did, while strolling through a lot of amazing vintage shops. Besides the shopping excitement for me, L.A. harbors Griffith’s observatory displaying a huge telescope, which in turn was a joy for my husband to visit. And of course, one can’t simply visit L.A. without seeing the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

This was my first time travelling to the USA and I all passed by so quickly. But exactly as the saying goes: time flies by when you’re having fun.

Blog & Collabs

Looking back to the blog, I wish I could have accomplished more. But given my busy full-time job and my current health status, I’m still proud of what we have achieved again this year. This blog would not be here if it were not for my incredibly patient personal photographer who happens to be my husband and the support of some amazing brands, designers and stylists I had the honour to collaborate with this past year. Thank you MAK Sweater, Teacup Girl, Miss Fortune and Yess For Hair for believing in my blog and helping me spread my passion for vintage-inspired beauty & fashion.

Style ‘changes’

I had some fun thinking outside my usual preppy pinup style and tried a few new things. Especially since I’ve had a rough few months, I tried to be more relaxed about my outfits and overall styling when I couldn’t be bothered to go full glam and I think I’ve embraced this more ‘casual’ retro version of myself.

In parallel, I’ve experimented with a few darker looks. Being used to wearing bright colors, this was initially a little outside my comfort zone, but I’m digging this dark side of me as well.

Memorable moments aren’t always very positive ones. The past year I’ve been struggling very hard with mental illnesses, which has kept me more from working on my blog and doing what I used to love than I had hoped. I won’t go into further detail about this, as I am still undergoing specialized diagnostical testing at this very moment. However, I know I (literally) wouldn’t be here without the solid support and unconditional love of my husband and I’m grateful to have him by my side on this though journey.

Mens sana in corpore sano. While my mental health hasn’t been well, I started to take more care of my physical health. After trying and failing many times at “just working out on my own at home”, I finally got a gym membership this Summer. After a rough day, I really look forward to lifting some weights and letting off some steam – and you know, the muscle definition is a nice bonus.

Best nine & your support

I want to end this recap with my Instagram’s best nine of 2018, as it reflects your preferences and opinions on what you like about me. I was surprised to see the exact events I valued in 2018 pop up in this top 9. You guys clearly liked my wedding, my Viva Las Vegas outfits, shoots for blog posts, a more ‘casual’ OOTD and you overwhelmed me with love and support when I announced I wasn’t in a good mental place.

I can only be humbled by the continuous support and love I get from my husband, family, friends and followers, even in times when I think I’m standing alone.

Although my 2018 also brought various beautiful memories, like our wedding, I am pretty much done with 2018. A lot of doors will be opened, but also closed in 2019 and you may expect some changes on here as well!

I hope you had a wonderful year or in those moments when life decided to be a b*tch, there was love and support to help you through. Thank you for sticking with me and my content for another year. I hope to see you here again in 2019!
