Halloween is right around the corner, time get serious with the spookiness!
Today I’m bringing a dark vampy look themed around the “Creature of the Night” wiggle dress by Retrolicious.
The Retrolicious designers didn’t really state their source of inspiration, but the resemblance with 1930s-1950s film costumes and Halloween wear is striking. Thus, making this a pretty authentic style and proving vintage and Halloween can aesthetically go hand in hand.
The dress features a deep plunging V neck, which I spiced up even more by letting the string details of my bra peak out. But the true show stoppers are undeniably the batwing sleeves. They provide a royal cape-like effect when keeping the arms down only to turn into full glamour ghoul realness with the arms wide open. Warning: these sleeves are just too fun to play around with and might turn into an intensive arm workout.
I’m usually a bit hesitant for wiggle skirts as they have way less movability than my beloved circle skirts and often leave me walking awkwardly like a penguin rather than a sassy pinup. Luckily the “Creature of the Night” dress has a lot of stretch and a split in the back for comfort.
The dress comes with a shiny black PU belt. I like how the contrasting finish of the belt kind of breaks the whole matte look of the dress, to add more focus on the waist.
The fabric is a mix of 62% rayon, 33% nylon and 5% spandex allowing quite some stretch. Measuring 35.5/27/40 inches, I’m wearing a size S and the dress hugs my curves just perfectly, while I can still move comfortably. Keep in mind I’m wearing a corset in these pictures for a little extra oomph, but that doesn’t make the dress too baggy in the waist. If you are in between sizes, but rather on the lower end of the 2 sizes, I suggest you size down if you like a tighter fit.
The “Creature of the Night” wiggle dress is available in sizes XS-4XL and retails at $74.99. If you fell in love with these vampy sleeves, but prefer to style it with a circle skirt or pants, then there’s also the top version. The dress and top are available through the Retrolicious website or via several stockists, including Unique Vintage, The Oblong Box Shop and Sourpuss (prices might vary per stockist). If you are eyeing on these batwing pieces, don’t hesitate for too long because when they are gone, they are gone as Halloween season is almost over.

This was my first purchase from Retrolicious, but definitely not my last. I really love their quality, their eye for detail and the quirkiness of their designs. The “Creature of the Night” dress is definitely outside of my comfort zone style-wise, but I do love this darker look a lot and will dip into it once in a while in the future. And it doesn’t have to be Halloween to rock this dress or any kind of witchy aesthetics, as my favorite glamour ghouls Acid Doll, Miss Diversity and miss Holloween prove every day. Wear whatever makes you feels good, any day of the year – if you still needed another excuse for this dress.
