My 2017 in retrospect

Just a few more hours and 2017 is already over. It’s been quite a year with many joyful moments and achievements. To finish this year, I want to take you through my highlights of 2017.

OOTDs & wardrobe additions

Reviewing this year, I think I should start with perhaps my biggest passion and the main focus of this blog and my Instagram: fashion and accessorizing. I enjoyed putting together every single outfit, whether it was just for daily wear to work, for a blog shoot or a special occasion. I’ve also been focusing more on authentic vintage pieces and got to add several true vintage gems to my collection this year. Here are just some of my favourite combinations I wore in 2017:

My blog & the beautiful collabs

I will admit I still struggle to combine blogging with my stressful full-time job. As much as I would love to spend more time creating more and better content for the blog, I think we did a pretty good job in 2017. I have to say ‘we’, because I couldn’t have done it all without the amazing and patient photographer that is my boyfriend. Furthermore, ‘we’ also includes some brands and designers I had the honour to work with this past year. Thank you Voodoo Vixen, Miss Candyfloss, Emmy Design, Bésame Cosmetics, Suavecita, Dariel Dearlove, MAK Sweater, Los Flamingo, Grace Glams, Elements Rainwear, House of Satin and Always Fits for helping me sharing my passion.

Blogger events

This year, I had the honour to get invited to blogger events! Unfortunately, I had to miss the bloggers lock-in at Revival Retro back in February due to the flu! But I got another chance to accompany the gorgeous London bloggers crew at the exclusive Voodoo Vixen party for their A/W collection launch. It was such a great pleasure to meet some of the amazing pinups I’ve been following on social media in real life.

Trying new things

A big achievement this year was stepping a little out of my comfort zone and trying things I usually wouldn’t do or wear. I took the plunge into wearing turbans (and now I’m totally hooked!) and even ventured a Gibson roll hair tutorial.

PhD achievements

By the name of this blog, you can tell that besides beauty and fashion I’m also into science. For those who have been following me for a while now will probably know I’m a PhD student working in the field of cognitive genetics. This year provided many challenges as well as opportunities to grow as a scientist. I got to attend and present at several science conferences and passed my mid-term evaluation.

My best friend’s wedding

Another beautiful memory of 2017 was the wedding of my best friend. She married just a few days ago, right before the end of the year and definitely deserves a highlight in this year’s review. She was such a perfectly gorgeous bride and I feel so very honoured for being her maid of honour!

For privacy reasons I will not post pictures of my best friends wedding, but here’s the outfit I wore to the wedding.

My engagement

I kept my most mind-blowing highlight for last: I got engaged in December! Totally unexpectedly my now-fiancé popped the question in the most touching way! He is my rock, the support behind all my decisions and actions. He has been part of my 2017, but will be my entire future, I can not wait to share the rest of my life with him!

2017 has been an amazing year and apart from all these beautiful moments I summed up here, I’m very thankful for my family, friends and you, my followers, for the continuous support.

I’m already looking forward to what 2018 has to bring. On the 2018 agenda is of course our wedding and honeymoon, but also Viva Las Vegas, with the pinup competition for which I registered – fingers crossed I make trough the selections – followed by a USA trip and lots of exciting content for the blog! Stay tuned!

I hope that, just as mine, your year was filled with joy and love with friends and family and I hope to see you here again next year! What were your 2017 highlights and what are you looking forward to in 2018? Let me know in the comments!
