As soon as the sun sets, the mysteries of the night uncover. The moon reigns the dark skies under her silver radiance. I’m a sucker for the clichés of magic and romance of the night and delicate lingerie to get into that mood.
As I reviewed a few moons ago, the vintage-style lingerie brand House of Satin came up with several themed collections after their relaunch. Spanning the roaring twenties up to the swinging sixties, they have something to offer for every vintage vixen. Recently, they released the Moonstone set, immediately triggering my inner innocently romantic moonchild.
The Moonstone set is part of the Satin Gems collection and fits into the theme of combining simplicity with a bit of luxury. The Moonstone range consists of several pieces: the Satin Gems Classic Moonstone Bra, Mini Brief, Full Brief, Suspender Belt and Suspender Girdle.
Because undergarments and a nice silhouette usually start with a decent bra, I want to focus on the Moonstone Bra here.
As if an ode to the Moon herself, the soft colour palette of peach and cream justifies the romantic vibes of the Moonstone set. The satin finish adds some luxury in theme with the rest of the Satin Gems collection. The design of the bra is unmistakable true to original 1940s patterns and ads.
The bra features soft, unpadded cups and no underwires, still offering all the support and definition your bust needs. The bra straps can be adjusted for extra lift. The bra closes at the back in 3 possible fits with a clasp of 3 hooks and eyes. The overall simple design is topped off with elegant seam details and a cute little bow between the cups.
The Satin Gems Classic Moonstone Bra comes in sizes 32A-42F. I went for my usual bra size, which is a EU 70D /UK 32D. Just like my previous experience with House of Satin, the sizing and fit are on point. The combination of the soft, slightly stretchy fabric and the unwired design, makes the fit and wear of this bra just so comfortable, without any harsh materials digging into your chest and sides – no armpit rolls!
As I mentioned the bra is inspired by 1940s originals, so is the shape of its cups. Slightly bullet-shaped and with the breasts set a little wider apart, this recreates a beautiful vintage-looking silhouette and a hint to the classic Sweater Girl look. Without being too pointy and shocking the modern-day public, that is! I would definitely recommend this bra if you’re looking for a classic undergarment staple for everyday wear or as a starting point to adapt to this kind of look and shape before committing to a full rocket-proof bullet bra.
The Satin Gems Classic Moonstone Bra retails at 32.50 GBP and comes in a wide range of sizes. All House of Satin pieces are handmade with local resources in the UK, but they ship worldwide. This review covered only a small part of the elegant and comfortable vintage-style underwear they have to offer, so take a look into their other collections as well, as they will surely have something for your taste, size and curves.
That being said, I am more than happy to be sharing a discount code with you all, for 15% off your next House of Satin order: LIPSTICK (valid until the 31st of July 2017).
I want to thank and give a shout-out to my lovely boyfriend who is not only my house photographer for my blog shoots, but also an amazing astrophotographer. If you like some interstellar mysteries, take a look at his work here.
