Atomic Boom(erang) – Los Flamingo

Today I want to introduce you to a fun, young Australia-based brand, I just recently discovered. With over 15 years of experience in fashion retail and a deep-rooted love for vintage design, designer Kirsten decided to go her own way. The result of her passion is the charming vintage-inspired jewellery brand, that is Los Flamingo.

I was lucky enough to get to pick out one of their brooches to share with you.

Initiated with the detonation of the first atomic bomb, the Atomic Era inspired 1940s-1960s everyday architecture, interior design, fashion, art and entertainment with the obsession of atomic and abstract motifs and forms. The Los Flamingo Atomic Boom Brooches are truly inspired by this Atomic Era.

The brooch features the typical kitschy boomerang shape, that was so popular during the time. I like the level of dimension Kirsten added to the boomerang shape: the coloured boomerang is accompanied by the outline of a second boomerang, which adds a little kaleidoscopic touch to the jewellery.

And beware to get blown away: their web shop is pure pastel heaven! The brooches come in a large range of sweet pastel colours, plain or with a glitter finish. I chose the pink glitter one, since pink is my all-time favourite colour. And you know, glitter, duh!

With 50mm x 40mm, Kirsten nailed the size of the brooches as well. They are neither too small – there is plenty of detail visible – nor too overwhelming in size.

Definitely go check out The Los Flamingo Atomic Boom Brooches if you’re after a simple and cute accessory, that will still do the right amount of impact to your outfit. The brooch is adorable on itself, but I like the idea of pairing two sister brooches – the plain and the other glitter version of the same colour – even more.

The Atomic Boom Brooch retails at 25 AUD for the plain pastel ones and 27 AUD for the glitter coated brooches. Additionally, Kirsten is planning to expand the current collection with a new brooch design and bring out a bangle range in the near future. If you want to give them a try, now is the chance. Los Flamingo is offering a 25% discount on all brooches on their website from 7th– 14th February by using the promo codeVD17’.
