What’s in a name? – Voodoo Vixen Dita Dress

Vintage-style elegance, yet comfortable enough for work? The Voodoo Vixen Dita dress from their recent Autumn/Winter collection has everything you can imagine for a polished and comfy vintage-inspired look.

I know the struggle of staying true to the vintage style and at the same time being comfortable doing your job. Whilst I love the big pinup package, including a full circle skirt with a petticoat, it doesn’t fit underneath my lab coat, so many days I can’t come to work dressed up all voluminous. This is where the Dita dress comes to rescue.

What’s in a name? As the dress’ name suggests, the beautiful keyhole neckline gives that little hint of sassiness, like burlesque icon Dita Von Teese herself. The matching belt adds even more to the graceful figure-accentuating cut. The slimmer skirt was initially a little out of my normal style zone, but makes this dress so effortless and ideal for work.

The vintage touch lies in the cut and details of this dress. It is the kind of dress that is charming just on its own and doesn’t need a bunch of accessories. Besides the gorgeous keyhole neckline, the dress features ruching at the upper arms, rendering a cute little poufy shoulder pad. The adorable decoration of the black buttons on the sleeves makes bracelets redundant. To finish it off, there is the matching belt.

There is no zipper, but the dress is easy to put on due to its stretchiness. The soft and stretchy fabric is the key to the comfort of this dress. You will never feel cramped or uneasy doing your daily activities. The sizing is spot on, but the amount of stretch even allows for a few extra inches in the bust and waist area. I measure 35.5-36” in the bust and 27.5” in the waist. I went for a size S (34” bust & 27” waist) and it all fits nicely figure-hugging, without ever being too tight. With my slightly heavier upper arms,  I was initially a little concerned about the fit of the sleeves, but again, the stretchy fabric solved it all.

For this look, I didn’t go for major accessorising as to put focus onto the stunning details of the dress itself. I just paired the dress with seamed stockings and T-strap heels for ultimate Dita vibes. During winter, a pair of lace up boots would create a lovely look as well. The dress’ fabric is quite thick, making it ideal for this colder season.

As this dress is so simple, yet versatile to style, I definitely recommend incorporating it into your Autumn/Winter wardrobe! I went for the burgundy red version, since I find it the perfect Autumn color, but the dress comes in a vibrant blue and classic black as well. The red colorway has already sold out at the Voodoo Vixen website itself, however, you can find it at their stockists all over the world (Topvintage, Looks Like Vintage and Unique Vintage are some examples). The dress comes in sizes S-XL and retails at £45.

Since this dress is so effortless and comfy, I incorporated this dress in a guest blog for Voodoo Vixen with tips to stay true to the pinup style in your daily work/school wear. To read this guest blog post, get ideas for new looks, or shop the dress; head over to renewed Voodoo Vixen website and their blog section. Visiting the blog section even reveals a coupon code to get 10% off site wide! What’s your excuse now to not purchase the Dita dress?
