As I have mentioned in an earlier post, more true vintage finds would follow on my blog. So, today I am bringing a dress that I have been dying to share for quite some time now.
Just like in my first true vintage clothing post, I purchased this gorgeous dress on the Ooh La La Vintage Sell and Swap Group on Facebook from the same vintage seller. Shout out to Liz Tregenza, author of the books “Style Me Vintage: Accessories” and “Style Me Vintage: 1940s” and the lady behind Advantage In Vintage, who has quickly become my number one vintage seller. With her vintage fashion knowledge – she is even doing a PhD in fashion history! – and her great eye for real treasures, I am always glued to my computer when she’s coming up with new items to sell, as to be the first one to snag these pretties. Plus she’s in the UK, which is a lot less hassle for shipping to Belgium!
Based on some sneak peaks of the upcoming items Liz had revealed on her Instagram account, I was originally focused on another dress – which I bought as well. But when this stunner in splendid condition popped up for such a reasonable price and in my exact measurements, I couldn’t resist.
This beautiful original 1950s dress features purple hydrangea bouquets on a blue and white checked background. A true objectification of Spring. With the Autumn season around the corner at that time, this floral print initially had me hesitating. But you know the end of this story: beauty over won and this dream of a dress was soon mine. And thanks to the weather gods for the prolonged summery temperatures in Belgium, I was able to have quite some wear out off this dress already.
When buying clothes online, the main doubt is always the actual fit. The fit of this dress is as much as a dream as the print. The little buying remorse – or call it a feeling of guilt – I initially had immediately vanished when trying on the dress for the first time, since she fitted me so perfectly as if she was made just for me!
I love the simple, yet elegant cut of this dress, which draws the attention to the gorgeous floral print. The full skirt is ideal to combine with a petticoat underneath, but already provides some volume on it’s own . It’s the kind of frock you can dress up or down according to the occasion.
Outfit details: Dress – vintage from the Ooh La La Vintage Sell and Swap Group Petticoat & Shoes – Banned Hair flower comb – Sophisticated Lady Hair Flowers Earrings, belt & purse – vintage Bracelet – handmade by me
I truly enjoyed putting this outfit together! I wanted to keep the focus to the purple hydrangeas and styled accordingly. My hydrangea hair comb from Sophisticated Lady Hair Flowers matched this dress perfectly. This gorgeous outfit and forest scenery made me feel as if I had ended up in a fairytale. Just like most fairytales, mine also ends living happily ever after with this fabulous true vintage dress.
